I never lost as much but twice

I never lost as much but twice,
And that was in the sod;
Twice have I stood a beggar
Before the door of God!

Angels, twice descending,
Reimbursed my store.
Burglar, banker, father,
I am poor once more!

Nigdy tyle, co dwa razy nie straciłam,
A wszystko w błoto poszło;
Razy dwa, jak nietota stałam
Przede bramą Bożą!

Anioły, zstąpiwszy, dwa razy
Wypełniły mi schowek.
Złodziej, bankier, ojciec,
Biedna jestem znowu!

Please compare the Playmates and the Exclusion, along with the file on the Latin morph LUS in the Resources. The inspiration here might have been duplus, double, twice as large, twice as much, and lustrum1, a slough, bog.

We can find nietota in Aleksander Brückner, see the Resources.
